Sidharth Menon
Helloooo and Namaskaram all! My name is Sidharth, and I am running to be your President for this amazing society next year.

Kerala is an ancient Dravidian civilisation with a phenomenal history and beautiful land that bears host to a profusion of diverse elements, including innumerable festivals, art, history, music, cuisine, dances, religions, landmarks and cinema to name very few.

After a year of having fulfilled the role of Vice-President for 2 cultural Indian societies, I feel I have a firm grasp of the responsibilities and skills required for us, as a committee, to host a plethora of activities that will make the next year of this society as incredible as it can be. I endeavour to establish an assemblage of activities not limited to but including inductions, film and games nights, club nights and our own society ball!

As an impassioned Malayali, our rich culture is an integral part of my life and so I would relish in the opportunity to be part of developing a treasured community where we welcome people from all walks of life and backgrounds.

And as much as we immerse in this culture together, you can be sure we will have a LOT of fun. Like. A lot.

If elected your President, here’s what I will aim to do to enrich our society and celebrate our shared culture best:
-Set up a UCL Malayali Discord where we can connect, call and talk at any time of the day
- Organise a variety of events both during and after COVID. Examples of this could be game nights, quiz nights, cinema nights, desi restaurant crawls, Malayali parties etc
- Organise cultural events for the Malayali society such as Onam, Christmas and joint ones with the IndianSoc.
- Create links with other Malayali societies based around London i.e. Middlesex MalyaliSoc and KCL MalayaliSoc to organise larger-scale events and form a London Malayali society.

This role of President requires somebody with both ability and experience of acting in a leadership capacity and this is something I can demonstrate from a few key examples:
- In 2018, I created and ran a fundraising campaign called 'Run for Kerala' in response to the flooding in Kerala. The money raised went to the Relief Fund organised by Kerala's CM and to replacing damaged equipment at a small school.
- In 2021 I led a team of four Physics students to create a budgeted outreach program that would bring primary and high school students into UCL to encourage them to apply.

I am an outspoken member of several UCL PoliticalSocs, and have always combated discrimination and unfair treatment on any grounds. As President, I will bring everything I can to the table to grow and progress whilst at UCL.
