Hi! I'm Zac and I'm running for House Band Director for the year 2021/22!
Being one of the directors this year has been an invaluable experience, particularly through several online performances as well as a smattering of Function Band performances at the start of the year. Unfortunately the pandemic has rather curtailed House Band this year, however I feel that I have gained plenty of experience to be able to run an even better Band next year!
I think we can safely say one thing we are all missing is human contact, and that's something I intend to remedy! On top of the hope of far more face to face performances with actual crowds (tah Boris x), I am keen to introduce 'UCL House Jamz'; regular jam sessions in which a rotating number of people will learn a few songs and show up and take them a new level! This year has definitely highlighted the disproportion of Band members to performances, as well as a lot of inactivity that House Band can fall victim to due to said lack of gigs, so through these jam sessions, everyone will get a chance over a period of time to play in person, streamed live on our Facebook page!
Of course, we now know that we always have to have a backup plan, and for that I intend to introduce Spotlight performances. This will be a chance for individuals/small groups to produce regular online performances that can represent the House Band even if we can't all be together in person!
I'm hoping that next year will shape up to be fantastic! Vote Zooc!

Leading our Bands in 2020/21 was certainly… unique. Socially distanced gigs, strict regulations and the looming threat of cancellation dangling over our heads all added some spice to proceedings. Nevertheless, everyone absolutely smashed it! And with a year of experience, I’ve got the right perspective and ideas to lead us all to new heights.

House Band will serve as the perfect entry point for anyone looking to engage actively with our community, no matter their skill level. I love seeing strangers turn into buddies in a single rehearsal, and I will encourage emerging friendships and collabs as much as possible.

With all our House Band “graduates” becoming eligible for Function Band, auditions for next year will be extremely competitive. To accommodate all this talent, I will curate a playlist that shows us off in the best way.

The biggest innovations I want to bring to both House and Function band are playlists with songs suggested by the bands themselves. This way both genre and style of the music we perform will be ideally suited to the tastes of all band members, not just the two leaders.

Experience and fun all in one, I can’t wait to give this another shot!
