Zsófia Varga
Hello, I am Zsófia Varga, a first-year Linguistics student.

Participating in a LIPS talk at the beginning of this academic year was one of my favourite experiences of my (so far unfortunately only virtual) time at UCL - I quickly realised how much we could talk about and how enlightening this place could be for students with various backgrounds. But unfortunately, this year has drained us all, the society in its current state is almost nonexistent to the public - and that is something that clearly needs to be addressed and changed immediately. I feel like the topics of Language, Inequality and Politics are simply far too interesting and important to be forgotten about completely.

I am running for this position with some clear visions in mind - I want to create a community by discussing different book chapters and articles, by listening to each other's experiences and ideas, and simply, by meeting each other in person! I believe everyone who signed up to be a member of this society has a sense of how much could be discussed about the in/exclusivity of language, the ideas surrounding the change of language causing wider changes within society, or, quite the contrary, the forced change of language being just a liberal trick, and not doing anything to change the status quo and to materially improve the lives of the oppressed. But hey, let's discuss -- as a Welfare Officer, I want to bring life into this society, organise events and create a real community of ourselves.
