안녕하세요! I’m a second year student and an avid fan of all aspects of Korean culture. Working at 오세요 (Oseyo) alongside my studies for the past year, I have come to develop a deep appreciation for the country’s music, cuisine, language, and festivities, and my desire to share this with students across UCL is why I have nominated myself for the position of Treasurer.

As Treasurer, I would love to use my insight and connections in the Korean food industry to help organise more socials celebrating Korean cuisine once in-person activity is possible again, providing members with a taste of home or an introduction to the world of Korean cuisine alongside movie, games, and karaoke nights during their time at UCL! Having learned Korean through self-study, I understand the struggles of learning the language for newcomers, and will ensure that the society’s language classes will remain accommodating for students of all proficiency levels.

Having served as a Treasurer for multiple societies during my time at UCL, I have extensive experience managing finances for societies and liaising with the student union to organise events, apply for grants, and carry out reimbursements. Having also served in various outreach roles, I also have experience securing sponsorships, partnerships, and discounts as well, and hope to do the same for the society through both discounts at your favourite Korean stores and restaurants, and partnering with other societies to organise more large scale events.

I would like to make a contribution to the development of a sound and up-to-date accounting system in this society, thus, coming up with a scheme to manage the club’s expenditure with efficiency in accordance with the club’s primary objective, which is to promote Korean language and culture through language sessions and socials. It is a fact that the club has a limited resource, so I plan to organize a variety of inclusive and valuable events that would maximize the club members’ experience and learning. Undeniably, expanding the opportunity for language learning and cultural experience can be realized through adequate budgeting techniques with outstanding analytical skills and being adept at real challenges. By employing the knowledge I gained from the accounting team I collaborated with back in high school, I will strive to mitigate the problems that I encounter and therefore enrich members’ learning process and experience.

What I will focus on

Wisely allocate the club’s annual expenditure and align priority activities considering the club’s main objective to improve language sessions and open events.

Cooperate with other officers to plan and organize fundraising through a variety of social and cultural events.

Keep the latest club’s cash flow updated by utilizing advanced software.

Carry out a system of checking payments, collectables and expenditures.

Create a regular financial report for the club and evaluate set goals and priorities when necessary.
