I feel confident that I could make a positive difference as the Academic Events Director. This year I was fortunate enough serve on the IRS committee. In my role there I've helped organize events including the US-China series. I've gained experience in helping to managed and organize a society. I hope to be able to apply some of the lessons I have learned this year and make out society even better. There are a few specific areas I would like to focus on if elected as Academic Events Director. Obviously, this year has been difficult as we were unable to host any in-person events. As restrictions are gradually lifted I look forward to helping our society transition back to hosting in-person speakers. As an American citizen, I would work hard to try and organize a society visit to the US Embassy in London. Finally, I have a strong passion for international relations. My degree at UCL is politics and international relations. I have plenty of experience researching IR issues and debates for my degree. Outside of my degree I closely follow what's happening around the world on Twitter and other news sites. There are a number of interesting journalists and policymakers who I would try and organize events with if I were elected to this position. Thank you for your consideration.

As one of the most diverse and multinational universities in the world, the IR Society’s opportunities to not only learn about but engage with international relations and politics are crucial to understanding our global community. This understanding is what motivated me to serve on the IRS committee this past year, and is why I want to be your Academic Events Director.

As IRS’s first-year representative, I have had the privilege of working in the academic events department, learning about how the society chooses topics, invites speakers, and ultimately organizes the events we attend. As Academic Events Director, I hope to continue to make members feel connected and engaged with the society through hosting round table discussions after speaker events to further explore the topics. Secondly, I will send out forms throughout the year where you can give input into the types of events you want to see. Finally, I plan to implement a speaker series dedicated to giving advice on careers in IR.

In high school, I held leadership positions in debate, school newspaper, model UN, and mock trial in addition to interning at a lobbyist firm where I helped organize speaker events for Canadian MPs and Ministers. These experiences have equipped me with the collaboration and organization skills to take on the role of Academic Director, and I’m thrilled at the prospect of being able to promote exciting and thought-provoking events next year!
