I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to the imminent return of hockey!

This past year with isolation loneliness and a lack of hockey has highlighted the importance of wellbeing and self-care. With the education side of the role, I found the hockey tutorials a lifesaver for understanding content, and a friendly environment where I could get to know my hockey year group better. I want to provide these opportunities which I found so helpful and give back to the club.

In the past, I really enjoyed being on the committee as the volunteering secretary. I loved getting involved in the running of the club and organising charitable events, so I would be excited to organise welfare events too. This year, I am the student rep on my iBSc course where I have learnt a huge amount about listening and responding to concerns.

I want to continue all the amazing events and activities that our previous education and welfare secs have introduced. I also want to work with our new BAME and LGBTQ+ reps to ensure an inclusive club environment for all. I have some ideas for new events. Mostly, I want to work with the new publicity officer to create the occasional ‘Self-Care Saturday’ post, where I will signpost resources or have friendly advice on wellbeing and all things welfare.

I think most importantly, I want to continue being a friendly face around the club and someone you can come to if you have a concern, want to rant or just want a chat!
