Hi I’m Bizzy and I’m in first year. I thought I’d try applying for the volunteering role considering we got the encouraging email and it was left free. I’m not 100% sure what the role involves but I know that it’s something that would matter to me and I’ve got a fair amount of experience of doing bits and bobs of volunteering. Over the past year I’ve been volunteering in a kitchen helping serve meals for the homeless, and I’ve done things like 24hr walks and sponsored sleep outs and things like that for fundraising. I also think it would be be really good to get myself more involved with RUMSWHC, as much as possible, and throw myself into it. I’d love the chance to get more involved. I also think it would be fun to get people together to do things for a common cause!

Hi everyone! I’m Anisha, if you don’t know me, I’m a first year and I am running for volunteering sec.
Volunteering and Charity has always been very important to me; I have volunteered from a young age, getting involved with school’s charities committees and volunteering at local care homes and community centres. Also, I am currently training for a marathon, raising money for a charity which is very close to my heart. Through these various experiences, I have always found that each time you volunteer you are not only helping others who may be less fortunate than yourself, but you also learn something new, something that you never would have thought about before, from just talking to the wide variety of people that you meet. I personally feel that volunteering is an amazing experience that everyone should engage in and make the most of; you learn so much about the wider community and yourself and the impact you have is immeasurable.
This year has been difficult with COVID, it has meant that most of the season has been online, which has been disappointing and difficult. I have personally felt as a fresher, that I haven’t had the greatest chance to engage myself with the club as much as I would have liked to; but hopefully next season will be bigger and better, and I would love to get more involved with club and why not combine this with something which is important to me, like volunteering!
Thank you so much for listening and hopefully I will see you on the hockey pitch!
Anna O'Brien
Hi! I'm Anna, I'm a second year but hockey fresher because I wimped out of joining sports last year, but anyway... I would love to be next year's volunteering sec!
Volunteering is something that I really care about and it's something that I have a really big interest in. I think in the med school a lot of people's first and only experiences of volunteering are when they're just applying to med school - to have something to write on their personal statement or put on their CV. And I feel like that's a huge shame because it means that a lot of the time people don't realise the immense joy, and excitement, and fun that volunteering can be, and I would love to bring that to hockey which is such an inclusive and fun society.
I'm part of the ucl fun team, which I say not just to prove that I practice what I preach and that I'm in this for more than just a cool fleece (although that is a bonus haha) but it's to say that I have a lot of ideas that I can bring to the table, and I feel that I've done enough volunteering to feel confident enough in applying for this position.
But having said that, I guess it's in your hands now! So I would love to be your volunteering sec next year, I think it would be a lot of fun, (I mean if it's even allowed, but I hope so!) and if you decide not to vote me in no hard feelings!! Anyway bye have a good day!! :)
