David Bourton
I am running for Head of Marketing and Communications at Green Economy Society (GES) as I believe, based on interests and experiences I have built throughout this year, that I would be a proficient candidate. I led a rebranding of UCL Geography Society which got me interested in marketing and communications more broadly. Furthermore, as President at UCL GeogSoc, I have had to manage my time effectively alongside my studies which I believe will make me competent to take on this role. I am well acquainted with GES since attending a number of events throughout the year which has reinforced my interest in the society’s vision. If elected as Head of Marketing and Communications, my priorities would be to further increase the profile of the society through LinkedIn which I believe is under-utilised by the society at present - this would help in attracting a greater audience of members and attendees to events. Moreover, as an editor for The Bloomsbury Geographer, I have experience in the dynamics of running a student-led publication which I believe is something that GES should initiate next year, alongside a potential redesign of the website, to market the society to an even greater audience.

I believe I am a good fit for the role as I have already been on the committee for the 2020/21 academic year so I already understand the society operations and I have enjoyed my time on the committee so far. During my time on the committee, I had the opportunity to be involved with successfully organising events for society members with the help of other committee members. I am interested in being the head of marketing and communications because I have been involved in consulting projects where I taught myself how to use Canva to create social media posts and helped to form and improve marketing strategies. I have enjoyed creating social media posts on different platforms through these projects so I would like the opportunity to continue to do so through the society. I received positive feedback on my creativity with designing posts and I want to be able to utilise my creativity in marketing for UCL GES by adapting to the current style used for posts as well as experimenting with new designs that I think would go with the theme of the society. I am also happy to continue assisting in organising events that society members would like :)
