Golf's weird: it's a sure-fire acquaintanceship with trees, sand, and water, mixed in with some shanks for comic relief. Yet amidst this chaos, you form steadfast connections with others partaking in our weird sport. I was lucky enough to form these bonds here despite current circumstances, and I want others to have even greater opportunities to do so in the future.
If elected, my priority is to increase opportunities for on-course play. The club has made a good start with bi-weekly course sessions featuring 6 players per session, but demand has certainly been greater and thus warrants expansion. Furthermore, I wish to finally establish intercollegiate competitive play as we were unable to do so in 2020. Not only will this allow low-handicappers to test their skills in competition, but also enable all members to mingle with more golf enthusiasts from other universities.
To realize these goals and perform relevant responsibilities, I will use my experiences as a former golf team captain, a competitive golfer, and other past positions such as the Head of Business and PR of my robotics (FRC) team. The organizational skills and experience in liaising with external organizations I gained allow me to smoothly organize on-course play and competitions and my experience as a former captain and competitive golfer taught me how to play competitively and how to aid others in doing so.
I want more of us to builds bonds through golf. Please vote for me if you feel the same way!
Hello everyone, I would like to get involved in the UCL Golf Club and I think the ‘Captain’ role will suit me. I spend a lot of my free time playing golf, a sport I have practised for the past 10 years. Participating in numerous golf tournaments has not only taught me a lot about the game itself, but also about the strength of having a united team as my golf team in France takes part in the national team championship every year.
As a Captain of the UCL Golf Club, I will try to develop the ‘sports’ part of the club. My main objective would be to create a real team to compete against other universities in the UK (or elsewhere?!).
Also, here are a few ideas I have in mind:
- Try to organise another training session during the weekend if some players are interested.
- Focus more on going on the golf course.
- Make the golf club even more dynamic to encourage people to come more regularly; because I know there are other golfers in UCL but they do not come to our regular range sessions.
