Yanna Pusica
Hi! I’m Yanna Pusica, a penultimate year BSc Biochemistry student. My past experiences as Outreach Officer of UCL Immunology Society, have allowed me to gain substantial experience establishing relationships and partnerships with current individuals within our target audience, organization, and professors/researchers from other universities to inform and help students pursue internship and placement opportunities. I have personally contact and formed strong contacts with some of the world's leading researchers and doctors in immunology and invited them to present their life's work at UCL. During my time as Outreach Officer, I have also been able to secure Nobel Laureates and Lasker Recipients to come to UCL 2021/2022 and speak about the future of the research field and current innovation. I have been able to achieve this due to my strong involvement in research, where I am currently investigating autoantibody biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases and effects of COVID-19. Further, I have updated and developed a new and modern website for the society, have helped with the development of posters, organization of events and administrative responsibilities, and our society's announcements on the Biosciences Noticeboard. My past experiences, interest in genetics, and ambition are what this new UCL Genetics Society needs, someone that will help this society to grow, prosper, and attract more members and speakers from around the world.

This year I’ve been an associate member to the committee. Whilst taking on tasks to help everyone, I’ve gained some experience and organised two events (talks on gene therapy in epilepsy and precision medicine for cystic fibrosis). I really enjoyed doing this and would like to organise more great events for you next year! I have plenty of ideas for talks including some on pharmacogenomics, genetic engineering in agriculture and of course, I can organise further events on gene therapy and personalised medicine- some of the topics which I’m passionate about. I am very open to suggestions so I would be happy to take onboard your ideas of topics and types of events you would like to have.
