Eloise Knight-Smith
When I first came to UCL I struggled a lot with finding opportunities to explore my identity alongside other Queer people. London is well known for its vibrant Queer scene, and UCL is too awash with a diverse range of LGBTQIA individuals. However, when first coming here, being Queer can be an incredibly isolating experience as it can be difficult or intimidating to voice your identity or break into Queer spaces. As LGBTQIA rep I would work alongside the rest of the committee to ensure that Queer voices are equally well acknowledged, valued, and welcomed within this society as those belonging to people of other identities. Moreover, I would concern myself with creating an environment within the society wherein Queer individuals can safely express their authentic identity and unique needs, whilst feeling as though they are being accepted and understood and see their Queer interests reflected in the discussions and productions of the society. After such a divisive year at the hands of Covid-19 it feels more so essential than ever to immerse oneself with the company of like-minded individuals and thus I would relish the opportunity to take on this role and support my fellow LGBTQIA GenFem members.
