Salut à tous! I’m Martin and I’m a second year History student here at UCL, and I’ve also been a teacher for the Francophone Society for the past two years. I’ve always found that offering classes is a wonderful opportunity for the volunteer francophones, as well as being one of our Society’s most popular activities! I’m currently teaching Advanced level, while I taught Beginners last year, so I have experience running classes at two very different levels. Being a second year means I’m also familiar with the kind of teaching before and after Covid-19, and I’ll be putting those experiences to use when organising the French classes of 2021/22.
This year has been a different experience for all of us who haven’t been able to interact in the classroom. The management of the classes also felt a bit distant, so I’ll move to reinstate events where teachers and students can meet next year as far as possible. And not everything was negative under Covid-19: online classes unlocked some options that we didn’t have before, like sharing online resources and convenience of access. The future is still patchy, but I’ll aim to combine the best of both worlds next year.
