Qi Young
I believe that I would be a good fit for the role of president of the first-generation society because firstly, I am a first generation myself so I know what it is like to feel lacking in opportunities and behind others due to background therefore I am highly motivated to ensure that others like me are able to gain the support and insights that allow them to excel in their desired career field. If I am elected as president, I would listen to what members would like and tailor events to suit members so that they can get the most out of the events. I will ensure that there is variety in the events. I will also work together with the rest of the committee to deliver some good social events so that there are opportunities for members to make friends. Additionally, I have been a member of UCL First-Gen for two years and I attended most of the events during the 2019/20 academic year so I have gotten the gist of the types of events, the operations and the overall dynamic of the society. For example, one of the strengths in the society is the mentoring programme, this will continue to be built on and improved. I have seen the society grow and would like to contribute. Also, I have experience in leadership, and I believe that I am an organised individual so I think I would be suitable for the role.
