2020 was a challenging year for all of us. Despite the completely new lifestyle we were thrown into, I am glad to have been a part of such a resilient and creative committee - working tirelessly to bring fresh and exciting initiatives for all our members. I wish to uphold these values and work on the same standard if given the opportunity of presidency.
My primary aim as President would be to expand the conversation on the FinTech revolution. I plan to achieve this by introducing the members of the society to the various specialised fields under the FinTech umbrella and associated branches such as Big Data through introductory skill workshops as well as panel events discussing the practicality of such technology. The idea behind such an initiative is to allow members to discover their FinTech interests and upskill in a period of financial innovation.
Another objective I plan to take as seriously is the transition of the society from fully remote interaction to a dynamic state consisting of both online and offline events as we navigate out of the COVID pandemic.
I also wish to introduce mentorship schemes and training initiatives for the FinTech society’s flagship Algorithmic Trading competition in order to make the exciting event accessible to all skill levels.
Of course, my foremost duty would be to form an approachable committee - open to ideas from all over the society - and make the coming year as enjoyable as possible and perhaps a little educational.
Over the past year, I've been a part of the UCL FinTech Society as an events executive. I've thoroughly enjoyed working on various large-scale events such as the Diversity in FinTech Series, the Pitch Competition and the Future of Finance Conference. I've also had the opportunity to work with many of the divisions within UCL FinTech, as well as various societies from other universities. Being a part of UCL FinTech Society has been a rewarding experience, and I would like to run for president to continue contributing towards the society and take the society to greater heights.
If I were to be elected as president, I would like to collaborate with more societies at UCL and other universities, to host large-scale events that benefit students across the UK. I would also like to increase our sponsorship base, to provide unique opportunities to the members of our society. UCL FinTech always strives to help their members. With this in mind, I aspire to collate a large library of resources, including high quality CVs and Cover Letters.
This year we ran our first-ever mentorship programme, the FinTech Career Incubator. I aspire to expand this programme to include penultimate year students as well, partnering them with mentors who have successfully secured internships and full-time roles in their respective fields. Finally, with this year being a tough year for everyone, I would like to have more social events either virtually or on campus should UCL permit it.
