Hello, my name is Denis and I am running for Head of Events and Socials at UCLES.

Since the end of the last academic year, I have been an executive at the Events & Socials committee of UCLES. While working with the team, I was able to see the long and complicated process of organising all events. We had to target the right speakers that will engage our members and then we had to send as many invitations as possible to people from the target industry in order to increase our chance of securing a talk. This helped me learn the importance of teamwork as it wouldn’t be feasible for a single person to reach out to so many potential speakers.

Hence, by being part of this exciting division for more than 10 months now, I feel like I have the potential and knowledge to lead the team in the upcoming year. I will distribute the work to the executives in advance and schedule more regular catch up meetings than last year because I feel like people are more productive if they can share their progress while working towards a specific goal. This will help us be on top of our agenda and try to keep the events flowing during the year which I hope will be brighter and we will have the chance to organise more events in person.

Best,

Hi everyone, I’m Hahn-Lon, I’m an electronic and electrical engineering student and passionate badminton, pool, and league of legends player. Let’s be honest: the past year has been hard on everyone- whether it’s making friends virtually, or learning in a new online format; adjusting to a socially-distanced university experience is not easy. As a fresher myself, I’ve seen first-hand how beneficial events and socials can be - they allow us to meet new people, receive career advice from industry professionals, or even just have fun with people across different disciplines.

I’m running for Head of Events and Socials at the engineering society because I firmly believe events and socials are a defining part of your university experience - and I want to make your experience at UCL as unique, exciting, and enjoyable as possible. As a first-year representative, I’ve been extensively involved with the planning and execution of several of the engineering society’s events, including the UCLES hackathon. I’m confident that I have the experience, as well as the leadership and interpersonal skills required to make the engineering society a welcoming environment for everyone. I look forward to continuing my journey with the engineering society and meeting everyone in person soon!
