Amal Malik
My passion for social entrepreneurship stems from my observations of socio-economic disparities in Pakistan, my home. From observing the suffering of men and women who could not afford to educate their children, to the starvation of homeless stray dogs, I vowed to myself to one day return and contribute to society with permanent solutions that would work towards eroding barriers to equal opportunities. Stumbling upon Enactus, I gained the opportunity to devise and lead an enterprise that addressed one of many pertinent issues in Pakistan, which was poor menstrual hygiene. Through this, I realised the beauty of social enterprise, in that its beneficiaries can be permanently empowered – they don’t have to constantly rely on donations but are enabled to generate their own revenue and contribute to a chain of social justice, changing lives for generations.

Having created and sustained an entrepreneurship project with Enactus UCL, I understand the inner workings of the organisation and what it takes to run and deliver results, even in the midst of a pandemic. I hope that by using my own strategies to create alternative solutions, especially when faced with limited funding or R&D, I can enable future Enactus project participants overcome the same issues and enable teams to work for causes that are close to their hearts. It would be my honour to be your Enactus President for 2020-21.
