Joining UCL Drama Society and taking part in productions during my first year at UCL was first time I was not the only POC in the room. Although this probably isn't a relatable story for everyone, I'm sure POC student's who grew up in majority white areas may have had a similar expiriences. Diversity & inclusion are issues incredibly close to my heart, no matter what a person's 'difference' is they should be able to feel empowered, seen and safe. My experience at UCL Drama Society has been broadly positive, however as Diversity & Inclusion Rep I will work to continiously look for and voice feedback from Drama Soc members. I firmly believe that there is always room for improvement, and improvement can only occur through open and honest communication. In this role I will ensure to encourage an inclusive environment which is representive of the UCL student body, whether I am working with the committee to interview and appoint the organising team for festivals or advertising society opportunities. One area I would particularly like to focus on is improving accessibility to theatre for differently abled people, possibly working alongside next year's Head of Volunteering to establish a volunteering scheme which looks to boost drama provision in schools for disabled young people. UCL Drama Society is one of the best parts of my university life, and I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue to develop the society in the role of 'Diversity & Inclusion Rep!
Reyna Jani
Hi! My name is Reyna and I'm running for Diversity and Inclusion Rep because the empowerment of minorities is very important to me.

I believe that I will be suited to this role due to my experience working as a welfare officer, providing a safe space for minority groups in addition to raising the awareness for a need for inclusivity in the committee. I also have experience in directing, voice acting and dramaturgy, all of which provides me with a balanced outlook on the position of minorities in drama.

If elected, my priorities will be providing support both for the committee and for members, especially ensuring that a diverse range of writers, producers, directors and actors are included in all events.

Thank you for reading my manifesto, and feel free to get in contact with me to ask any questions at: [email protected]
