Ruya Abdulsalam
Having been part of the society as a treasurer, I have been able to develop ideas of how we can transform it into a popular space for debate, not only for research into dementia, but also how students can get involved in such research. During my time as a president (should you elect me), I plan on achieving the following:
- Talks that focus on how we, the students can get involved in the world of dementia research and write successful scientific research internship applications by bringing in the people behind recruiting to host relevant talks.
- Bring a bigger emphasis to the clinical aspects of dementia, tying in with the sectors of medical neurology and geriatric medicine- I intend to host revision sessions useful for our medic and non-medic members out there.
- Host competitions, such as article writing/ scientific drawing to be published on our website and emails alongside the relevant badges/certificates.
- I aim to introduce an annual fundraiser- the charity will be picked by the members of the society.
- Monthly newsletter which encompasses the month’s best new research and insight into pathophysiology, clinical management and treatments in the field so you’re always up to date.
- Utilise monthly journal club sessions to discuss members’ pick of a new research article.
If you agree that we can achieve these goals, feel free to choose me as your president for the next year and I will do my absolute best to deliver them alongside you, the members!
