Yizhang Li
I’m a First-Year PPE student, currently serving as an IV Convener for our society.
I want to keep our momentum and make the society more engaging and approachable to UCL. Having ended up 1-2 points shy of breaking for a couple tournaments, I realised it’s crucial to also make the non-competitive side of debate rewarding. I’d like to:
 Hold public debates on up-to-date issues and allow keen members (or the floor) to engage with prominent guest speakers beyond zoom Q&A
 Set the topic of debates that are both intellectually worthwhile and interesting to attend
 Increase our promotion channels and allow interactive activities (Instagram polls/Q&A) to attract more audience
 Make recordings of our events (public debates) either as videos or blog posts accessible after the event
 Assist the President to run our society
I believe I am a competent candidate because:
 Being a current member of the society committee gives me insider knowledge of the society
 As an IV Convenor, I have experience in organising debating related events and have the ability to cooperate with other members in a team
 I have also judged Public forum debate tournaments, giving me experience on the other side of the game
 My enthusiasm in current affairs and academic support from my program makes a good combination for standards of setting themes of the public debates
Charles Rousseaux
Hey everyone! I'm Charles, I'm from Luxembourg and I'm a first-year student here at UCL! Vice President is a position that calls for administrative skills and the ability to substitute, which are skills that I have acquired and honed through work experience in firms and NGOs over the years. As well, this would not be my first time in a leadership position. As the former captain of my school's debate club, I am confident that the society will run smoothly under my guidance. I cannot wait to work with the President and bring the debating society to the next level. First of all, I have ideas rushing to be let out. Some of these include a podcast led by the society, a weekly news show and the introduction of guest speakers. Secondly, I am keen on organizing events where we can all get to know each other and strengthen our bond not only as members of the debating society, but as friends. Thirdly, I want to highlight the importance of representing UCL in debating competitions and will therefore push for our team to achieve the potential we all know it has. Debating is an art form that I am deeply passionate about, which in fact explains why I decided to study Politics here at UCL. For this very reason, I would make an active and dedicated vice president. If you share my vision for the society, there is one thing left to do, vote here ;)
