Antonios Zafeirakis
The leadership race is a demanding yet interesting process. In high school I've served twice as the President of the student body representing more than 350-students. Many may ask why am I interested in obtaining such positions? My answer is simple, it is because I believe in the power and the change that such position can make for students. I believe in diverse representation, and in having people who serve those seeking help.
The Treasurer position of the Debate Club, is an honorary position which I think suits my character in a way that maximises my ability to serve as a successful Treasurer and contribute to the evolvement of the Debate society. I've started debating in high school, and since then I managed to be selected for the Greek National Development Debate team (among the 12 best Greek debaters), break in several tournaments, but also be responsible for running the debate club in my school. This has given me the ability to learn the needs of debaters, how tournament works, and what actions need to be taken in order for debaters to capitalize the most out of debate experiences. I've been a member of the UCL Debate society since the beginning of this academic year and I have participated in 8 different tournaments (both as a judge and as a speaker) where I managed to obtain 2 novice breaks. All the above, have given my sufficient experience to know how to manage the financial need of the society and optimize the experience of the members of the Debate society.

As the current Training Officer, I've become very familiar with the society's finances and I believe that this knowledge will help me to allocate our funds efficiently to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate in competitions. My second priority would be to allocate funds to help facilitate socials in the society, helping to attract more members to our community, and creating opportunities for us to bond as a society.
Nithish Amaladas
If I am elected the treasurer of the UCL Debating society I solemnly swear, I will not appropriate the societies funds to gamble on meme stocks, and will use it for debate society purposes only.
With that out of the way, I will commit to the following action plan as a part of my manifesto:
• Modernize our accounting by digitizing our ledger and increasing transparency
• Lobby for a webmaster position in the committee, that will work exclusively with the treasurer and the new ledger system
• Keep membership free and use alternative funding methods.
• Make the next UCL (London) debate grander
• Try to pay Sheffield on time (lol)
• improve the efficiency of the inter-university payment system.
• Improve inclusivity and send more society members to competitions.
Having worked with the United Nations Association -YP as the head of accounts, the UK Federation of Chinese professionals as treasurer and with my high school Debate and MUN clubs; I have developed a very efficient system of administration that I would love to contribute to the Debating society.
I believe that my exposure to diplomacy, public speaking, debate and gambling on the stock market make me an ideal candidate for treasurer.
