Eloise Rondhout
I would be ideal for this position because I am patient, organised and intelligent. My qualities include a high standard of academia, excellent written and verbal communication skills and close attention to detail. These are cardinal in the position of secretary; a secretary must be able to communicate efficiently with a host of different stakeholders. The nature of History (my degree) includes a lot of reading and note-taking, making me perfect for minutes. Additionally, with limited contact hours, I am a flexible student who has learned the art of time management; this would allow me to constantly be replying to emails and forwarding information. From my experience as a member of the Debate and MUN societies, I have learned how to work well in a team, be an eager listener and communicate diplomatically.

My largest motivation for applying is because of my experience in the Debate Society itself. Despite being entirely online, this past year I found myself immersed in a group of intelligent people who have created a safe dynamic for individuals to explore ideas and arguments. Fundamentally, I have found a group of people who share one wholesome purpose of fun. I would love nothing more to facilitate the society in running as smoothly as possible next year. The secretarial position would allow me to be immersed in this community I am so fond of whilst helping new members assimilate, the team to function efficiently and for everyone to have a good experience.

Serving as the Training Officer for the past year has given me a strong understanding of how the society functions and the changes needed in order to help other committee members accomplish their respective tasks. I hope to continue contributing to the society by ensuring that everything runs smoothly as well as helping us to transition back to in-person debating.
