Hin Tsang
I have always been passionate about data and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Data Science Society. I have developed hands-on data analytical skills in Stata and Python from my economics degree and my experience algorithmically trading futures contracts on the HKEX with a machine learnt strategy. Joining an insight programme at Jane Street deepened my understanding of how statistical methods could be applied to trading. I have further applied data analysis during my internship at an exporter where I assisted the launch of a digital transformation. I strongly believe that my experience would make me an efficient, responsible and accountable treasurer.

I guarantee:

- Inclusion to all members by giving out questionnaires at the start of each term which would constitute a framework for our budget and expenses.

- Accountability to all members by publishing our budget and expenses quarterly.

- Early planning in all career events and socials to minimise the risk of postponement and cancellation, especially during covid.

- Email updates to all members at the end of workshops and presentations with important takeaways from guest speakers.

- Refreshments provided at face-to-face events to increase member satisfaction.
Da Oh
Hi, my name is Dabeen and I am running for the position of Treasurer of the Data Science Society.

In my role as the Executive of Events at DSS this year, I was given the opportunity to play an active role in flagship events such as Tech Career Fair Day and the first series of Women in Data Science events which have contributed to our members’ career development and improved women’s inclusion in the field of data science. These experiences have fostered my desire to provide more unique opportunities to our members.

If elected I would aim to:

1. Create Women Mentorship Scheme which aims at bringing to our female members tailored support – personalized advice on possible career goals and plans – in the field of data science
2. Organize events and workshops that give a real taste of how data science can be applied in business, finance and entrepreneurship by showing a broad range of real-life use cases coupled with concrete impact of data science
3. Improve career-focused events through stronger tailoring to our members’ needs, which would help them to better define and prepare for their careers.

Hello all! My name is HD and I am running for Treasurer of DSS! Having spent a lot of time at the societies broad range of events, from hackathons and workshops to industry events, this society has helped me improve my skills and I would like to continue my involvement with the society on a higher level. This is fuelled by my desire to learn even more about our lovely field and to spread the knowledge. Hence, as your treasurer, my goals are:

- Handle the society’s money with the financial backing given to us from the Union and Sponsors to hold amazing events.
- Increase our networking capacity to reach further into industry and secure funding for special projects.
- Assist the society in preparing, managing and running the events that you want to see happen!

As President and Treasurer of two societies in 2020/21, I have extensive experience in managing a society from an administrative perspective, dealing with requests from the Union, managing guest speakers and liaising with sponsors. I also have spent this year as an outreach and events executive at another two societies, spending my time securing speakers and funding for events in Term 1 and 2. I would love to bring my experience on board here at UCL DSS to bring you all a fulfilling and inspiring 2021/22!

Thank you for reading!
Ria Bhandari
Hi, I'm Ria and I'm nominating myself to the position of Treasurer! I'm extremely detail oriented and value methodical thinking and accuracy the most, which is crucial to the perfect financial management of any society.
Skills and Experience:
1. Commerce Society: the experience that I have gained from founding the Commerce Society in school, has imbibed in me the skills for the understanding and managing of finances and budgeting an organisation. For the initial budgeting of the Commerce Society, I drew up cost charts, established connections with sponsors from diverse fields including edtech startups, and led an overall successful team of executives that ultimately managed to re-invest a surplus in the very first year of the society's operations!
2. Running up-to-date accounts and bookkeeping; creating monthly budget forecasts and expense reports
3. I 'excel at Excel': I have a knack for creating meaningful spreadsheets and charts, which is an indispensable tool for any treasurer
If elected, I plan to:
1. Ensure detailed budgets with contingency plans
2. Explore the potential of the Society's connections and exposure through events and socials to attract sponsors
3. Consistently communicate with all committee members to ensure transparency
4. Subsidise tickets for socials: especially necessary after an almost 'unsocial' year; enabling everyone to participate and attract more me
Promising commitment to the post and its responsibilities, I hope to be elected!
