Born and bred in Hong Kong, I was introduced to conservative politics by watching the 2016 US presidential election and campaigning for local tax cuts in the same year. Being active in a conservative youth group, I protested against the government’s introduction of the extradition bill in 2019, which would render the judicial system susceptible to China’s infringement of civil liberties. Meanwhile, I developed an interest in free-market policy, having published an article opposing a plan to introduce rent control. Planning to settle in the UK through the BNO visa scheme, I am dedicated to further promoting conservative causes by being the Treasurer of the Conservative Society.
I guarantee:
- Improved communication with members by providing a monthly email update with information on upcoming events and minutes taken in previous P&P debates.
- Refreshments provided at debates and socials to enhance member satisfaction.
- Early planning in booking venues for events to increase choices and reduce risk of postponement or cancellation, especially during covid.
- Greater transparency within the committee to drive informed decisions in budget allocation and event management.
- Accountability to all members by publishing budget and expenses quarterly.
I strongly believe that the numerical and organisational skills I have developed from my economics degree and campaigning experience would make me an efficient, responsible and accountable Treasurer. Thank you!
I have been on the UCL Conservative Society committee for both of my years so far at UCL first as Sponsorship Secretary and currently as General Secretary, during which time I've learnt the inner workings of our society. This past year has been tough with the pandemic restrictions but we have still played host to some impressive speakers (my personal favourite was Lord Tebbit) and we aim to bring you the members even more in the coming year. Thankfully the pandemic has at least bolstered our funds due to very low expenses, as a result I would endorse a panoply of social events next year. So remember this: with me as your treasurer I can provide the strong and stable guidance that we need to Build Back Better and make our society great again!
