I have always been a very maths motivated person. I am a first-year Physics student, which involves lots of maths and numeracy. I have always enjoyed Bhangra. Over lockdown, my family and I took part in a number of zoom Bhangra dance classes hosted by Manpreet Toor which I thoroughly enjoyed!

A key part of money management is knowing where you are getting the best deal, and me being desi and having grown up in an Indian household, let’s just say I know negotiation like the back of my hand, and I am not afraid of a little quick wit.

On a more serious note, I have the numerical competence required for this role as well as the reliability to keep up to date with the fluctuating income. My knowledge of accounting principles is excellent – I am currently doing an internship about the fundamentals of finance which I could implement in my role. I have great communication skills and also have some experience in financing events (when I was Head boy at my school). In the past, I have also raised funds via GoFundMe for a 24-hour Triathlon which raised over £500 for the children’s ward at Northampton General Hospital. The money was used to create “care-packages” for parents and carers who are suddenly expecting to stay the night at the hospital.

I really enjoy working with numbers. I feel that this role will host a great opportunity for me to hone my skills and it would be an honour to join the Bhangra society.

My name is Gurshaun (Shaun) Singh Uppal and I would love to be the Treasurer of Bhangra Society next academic year. Bhangra runs in my family, which has resulted in me having such a big passion for it, and so I would love to involved in the committee next year! I believe I have good time management which will help me to successfully handle the role of treasurer, liaise with the union to book rooms for bhangra practice and be able to go above and beyond next year when things start opening up. I can’t wait for what’s in store next year and I would love to be involved in the society’s success! Thank you for taking the time to read this and God bless you all.
