(Teresa Macey-Dare) Community is one of the fundamental and most valuable aspects of any club. Unfortunately, many people and causes are unable to get such support. Therefore, I believe that from the privilege of being in a team, comes the responsibility of extending this sense of inclusion into a wider context. Giving something back by supporting charities has a lasting positive effect on both our local/ global communities and ourselves. After volunteering at a children's charity in my hometown (KEEN), I have been able to experience this first hand. The impact of something as simple as a weekly sports session on the kids' confidence and happiness was truly inspiring. Whilst there are innumerable good causes, I believe that supporting a youth sports charity, such as KEEN, would be especially rewarding given the connection to our club. Our engagement with it on a more personal level would help us to make more of a difference. Yet, regardless of which charity is chosen, were I to be elected I would ensure its place as a central and active part of uclwb. Using my prior volunteering experience and general enthusiasm, I would strive to organise a variety of events/ initiatives to maximise this support.
Working as an Outreach officer this year I had the pleasure to work with amazing organizations like Macmillan Cancer Support or AgeUK. We have raised money to bring awareness and support important causes. I want to keep working alongsite UCLWB as an outreach Officer to continue to support charities and communities. There is a long way to go still so I want to have the chance to continue to do this. My priority is to raise awareness and bring about change and fight for justice, sustainability and equality.
