Given the difficult situation, I have made the most of my role as First Year and Fresher Charity representative through my involvement in events such as Games Night and the Medina Square fundraiser. I am convinced that my background has prepared me for the treasurer role. I have the budgeting and analytical skills required as this year I have organised a fundraiser to improve a school in Bangladesh during the upcoming Ramadan with Bsoc. This highlights my planning and strategy skills, as I had to liaise with suppliers in Bangladesh regarding stationary equipment. I have full confidence that I will apply these interpersonal and project management skills productively as treasurer. Being Bangladeshi is an integral part of my identity, as I enjoy our rich culture. However, I understand the realities back home so that is why I want focus on charitable causes next year alongside organising the finances for in-person events. I want to continue the development of the school with the potential additions of new buildings through fundraising. I am eager to organise, bookkeep and budget MaaMonth. Also, I want to explore new event ideas using Bsoc’s wide range of connections.

Hi :)
I'm Shara, a 1st year chemistry with mathematics student.

I am eager to play a part in improving and managing the Bangla Society and so I am running for treasurer. A good treasurer is one who is reliable, efficient and an assertive negotiator which is why I am confident that I am well suited to this role.

Since the rest of the committee rely on funding and sponsorships to be secured for events to run smoothly, I would make sure to authorise and clearly record all expenditure ahead of time.

Having managed finances for several successful charity projects in the past, I gained experience in budgeting and forming contingency plans. I intend to apply my knowledge to minimise in-person event costs for members to encourage more people to purchase membership. I would also ensure transparency by calculating stats which show the level of success of each event and sharing these with the rest of the committee. Whilst taking meeting minutes as this year’s Connect UCL secretary, I strengthened my organisation and teamwork skills: two which are key to this role.

Besides carrying out my financial duties, I would network with people from other societies and universities with the hopes of helping to further increase the number of intersociety collaboration events. Leading breakout rooms during collaboration events as a Freshers Representative for BSoc this year has given me the opportunity to meet many people and I hope to continue doing so at in-person events next year.
