One of our main aims here at RUMS Badminton is to be the friendliest society and a key step towards this goal is to ensure that any members who are struggling receive support. The university experience is made out to be many things; exciting, social, ‘the best time of your life’, however you never really hear about how it can actually be quite lonely at times, especially because of the pandemic. As a welfare officer I will provide one to one drop in sessions and be a friendly face for members to talk to.
I’ve faced ‘imposter syndrome’ many times whilst at uni and I know many of my friends have too. We can all get caught up in the pressures of the competition to succeed and start to neglect our physical and mental health. Therefore I would aim to increase the presence of welfare on our Instagram page, by posting tips on how to relax while maintaining a productive schedule and also by organising non pressurised activities where people can get active such as playing frisbee in the park during the summer.
I would also love to create lots of welfare related social events with the social secretaries in order to improve the family feel of our club.
Whilst I have lots of ideas for welfare, I would also ensure to involve everyone in decision making for welfare events in order to maximise the benefit to all of our members.
