Meriam Abdelmoumene
Throughout my first year, I've been part of the events team as a fresher representative. It has been a fruitful experience, organising and delivering enjoyable events for students, including trivia night, "dates and debates" and an inter-uni social (to name a few). I feel as though I've been able to grasp the necessary skills in bringing these events to life, and making them as interactive and fun as possible, despite the restrictive conditions of Zoom. Our events have helped bring people of many backgrounds together, brightening up their evenings - this is definitely something I'd work on maintaining as events officer next year.
I hope to bring you many of the society's classics but also a number of new and exciting events, ones we can hopefully experience together, in and around campus. I want to give you the chance to explore more of the rich Arab and North African culture and get involved in activities to broaden your understanding of the MENA region. Also, I hope to bring you more collaborations with other societies, from both UCL and other universities so together we can better our knowledge on the things that matter to us.

Ahlan everyone👋🏻

A home far away from home, ArabNaSoc has allowed me to stay in touch with my culture and heritage in this unprecedented year. Being a fresher representative has taught me the art of intrinsically and effectively running this society and I hope to put these skills to the test by applying for the events officer position :)

This vibrant community has showcased the values of hard work and dedication, and I plan to carry on this society’s extensive and diverse event-planning legacy as part of the events team. With an exciting speaking panel list, in-person (say inshallah) sustainability planting workshops, traditional art paint-alongs and the usual yet much anticipated team activities, I hope to push ArabNaSoc to the next level. And with rona killing off all our social buzz, I hope to introduce more frequent in-person and virtual socials to give everyone the opportunity to interact and engage with the society and its members.

As my department’s lead representative, I exhibit both the leadership and planning skills necessary to make sure ArabNaSoc plays a huge role in your university experience as it did in mine!
