Hello! I’m Maïa and I’m Amnesty Soc’s current Vice President.

My role as VP has well prepared me to become President next year. Helping this year’s president to lead the society has made me very familiar with the society’s structure, and I am eager to continue Amnesty’s legacy of running powerful campaigns and fostering insightful conversations through speaker/discussion events. I would also love to use the experience I gained this year in using online resources to connect our members with more activists from around the world, in addition to (hopefully) hosting in-person events and campaigns.

I am passionate about human rights, particularly climate justice and education. In 2019, I volunteered in Ecuador for two organizations that address these issues, aiding villagers with ecological farming and waste removal and teaching music. I also created online lessons about climate justice for school children in 2020 through Amnesty Society’s Outreach program. These experiences made me even more interested in taking an active part in promoting human rights.

As president, I would be determined to foster an inclusive community for our members to be able to share ideas, play active roles in human rights campaigns, learn about global issues, and have a space to make lasting friendships. Participating in the Amnesty Committee has undoubtedly been my favorite part of this academic year, and I’m excited for the opportunity to lead this wonderful society again next year.
