I am standing for this position because I both want to be apart of the American Society Committee and believe I have the leadership experience to be an effective President of American Society.
I want to be apart of the American Society committee because I have thoroughly enjoyed being apart of American Society this year. As much as I love London and UCL, that doesn't stop me from feeling a little homesick while I'm away from the US. American Society has been a great place for me to get to know other Americans and to participate in American events and politics while I'm in London.
If elected as President, I intend to continue on much of the successful events hosted by the society this year, such as socials on American holidays and major events. I also hope to host more regular socials when possible, and to host events such as film screenings, guest lecturers (I'm a student at UCL's Institute of the Americas, and know a number of professors who specialize in the US), political and voter registration events, and hopefully some pub nights (COVID-permitting, or course).
Participating in UCL American Society has helped me retain my connections to home while living away from it, and if elected as President, I hope to help create a community for anyone at UCL who is from America or just wants to learn a little more about it!

Hello! My name is Philip, and I am running to be re-elected as President of the society. Over the past year, we as a society have made remarkable progress. Aside from increasing the membership of the society by over 50% and holding more events than in the previous two years combined, we also managed to hold multiple collaborative events with other UCL societies & other North American societies throughout the UK, as well as revitalizing our social media page into a source of information for American students on voter registration and other important information useful to Americans students living abroad.

This upcoming year, I would like to continue the progress we've made. If elected, I will work to continue to have 1-2 events a month, just as we did this year. Hopefully, depending on the COVID situation, these events will be in person, though we will adapt to an online-only or hybrid system if necessary to accommodate all of our members. I'm hoping that we'll be able to hold one or two welcome events in the beginning of term, as well as our traditional Thanksgiving & Superbowl events. I'd also like to try and hold events our society has never had before, such as visits to museums and perhaps even a visit to the US Embassy, as well as holding a few academic talks with UCL lecturers & experts on US affairs.

With your support, I hope I can work to make next year an even better year for our society!
