Rachel Okanlawon
Since starting at UCL, I've always been interested in the ACS and what it has to offer, keeping abreast with the great variety of social, academic and career events that have been hosted. I am running for Treasurer as I would be very much invested in working behind the scenes to bring forth ACS members' best experience.
As Treasurer, my main aims would be to:
Efficiently budget the society's funds in a way that provides a balance between affordability and excellent quality
Liaise with the Union Finance Team to increase the funds allocated to ACS as an avenue to bring a greater variety of events and activities to members
Work well with the President and Vice President to guarantee events run smoothly.
I am very meticulous, organised and methodical in my approach, and I believe I can bring these traits to the committee for the society's success next year.
Lastly, I am very open-minded and approachable so if you vote for me, I would be receptive to opinions from members on where they'd like to see more money allocated.

Thank you for reading my manifesto!

Rachel :)

Passion. Collaboration. Communication. These are all values that I encapsulate and will be looking to implement if I were to be appointed your Treasurer for the next academic year.

I run simply because I have a passion for numbers and making things work! I believe that I have the hard-core skills to excel in this role with my academic background. Studying management science and taking modules in finance, accounting and data analysis has allowed me to appreciate all things quantitative which I believe will aid me in making sense of all the figures and planning budgets.

I believe that I'm also well suited to the role, due to softer skills I acquired as a prior Managing Director of a Young Enterprise team, I constantly liaised with teammates setting deadlines, delegating tasks and planning for events. This enhanced my leadership, communication and networking skills, which I believe will be crucial when working closely alongside the president and events coordinators in ensuring effective money management.

As your Officer, my vision is simple - working tirelessly to ensure that our budgets enable us to experience a year like no other, that will be thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Im standing because I am very passionate about Afro-carribean culture and I want to put my skills to use with a committee position in the ACS. Having grown up in Kenya and lived there for 13 years, I feel that I have experienced a wide variety of African culture and experiences as well as being educated on social issues there. I then moved to the UK for 5 years where I experienced what it was like to live as an African in a majority white country. I feel like this combination allows me to relate to many backgrounds of members in the society meaning I can provide them with adequate resources to adjust to life in London as a committee officer. I'm applying for the Treasurer position as I enjoy doing quantitative and analytical tasks and I also feel that this is one of the most crucial roles in the committee. Furthermore, doing a statistics & management degree means I feel that I have a strong grasp of numbers and financial literacy which will allow me to adequately work in accordance with the president, events officer and other committee members to manage the budget as well as secure funding.
