Ahsana Parammal Vatteri
Hi, I am Ahsana, 3rd year PhD student. I was elected into this role in Autumn elections 2019, and am very glad to have achieved some of the goals in the last few months, thanks to the support from this community. These include:
-Use of Facebook group as an active platform for discussions, building a strong network within this community of student parents and carers (SPC).
-Creating a dedicated information exchange platform for student carers.
-Networking event for SPC.
-Approval of the Students Union for working towards a UCL-wide policy for more welcoming and inclusive environment for student parents.
-Secure additional funds for professional development of SPC, through Researcher-led Initiatives Award-2020.

Being a mother of a toddler, I understand the extra huddles we as student parents and carers go through. I believe there is much more I can contribute in this role as I aspire to work towards the following goals in the coming year.
-Facilitate more socializing opportunities including the ones in our care
-Set up a free child-accommodated ‘stay-play &work’ space at UCL
-Push for sessional crèche facility at UCL
-Organize expert sessions on well being, finance, parenting and caring aspects for this community, using the funds secured
-Spread information of this Network through involvement in welcome fares, leaflets, campaigns etc., to make sure that students are aware of this Network when they join UCL and nobody feels left out due to caring responsibility.
