Aatikah Malik
Why are you standing?:

My name is Aatikah Malik, and my time as a History undergraduate at UCL has comprised of some of the best and worst times. In a tough environment such as UCL where the pressure to excel is so great, I know how it feels to be alienated, marginalised and as if your specific needs are being unfulfilled. It would therefore be my personal pleasure and duty as your Welfare and International Officer to ensure your university environment is a comfortable, safe and loving haven; one in which every student, specifically those from underrepresented groups, would feel welcome.

I propose to do this by addressing the following areas

INCREASED AWARENESS OF MENTAL HEALTH AND SUPPORT

-Stronger zero tolerance on sexual harassment in both the Union and University campus

-Stronger personal tutoring systems and mental health training

-permanent nap rooms and productive use of new space

COMBATTING DISCRIMINATION

-Decolonise the curriculum and ensure BME students sense of belonging and welfare

-ensure more culturally sensitive mental health service

-strengthen the hate crime reporting centre and

STUDENT COMMUNITY

-support estranged students and those with English as second language

-remove attendance monitoring scheme

HOUSING AND FINANCE

-cut the rent and help students with financial management and housing advice through Lobbying the University
