George Hawthorne
Hi everyone, I’m George from Cheltenham and I’m running for Hall Rep this year! I’m keen to improve our halls in any way possible and aim to tackle a wide variety of issues ranging from improving the eco-friendliness and general maintenance of the halls to finding a ball for the table football and a remote for the TV in the common room!

Having been Head Boy at my secondary school I have also got experience organising events such as my leaver's prom for over 200 people. I would, therefore, feel confident organising big hall socials throughout the year that would be enjoyable for all!

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any other questions about what I’m standing for.
Reuben Micu
As Hall Rep, my main goal is to deliver action and results, not just make empty
promises.
Although only having moved in couple week ago, I believe we can all see that our accommodation has many things we can build upon and improve.
Taking into account the ever-increasing prices we are expected to pay for our accommodation, broken down lifts and lack of hot water for days on end is unacceptable. What is even worse is when it feels like our complaints are being dismissed. Thus, I vouch, as Hall Rep, to make all of your voices and opinions heard – no complaint or worry will be too small or silly.
On a more positive note, as Hall Rep I will make sure there will be events which cater to everyone. A major ambition of mine is to make sure everyone is included – I want to build a true sense of community, a safe space where everyone can be themselves.
In short, as your Hall Rep, I guarantee to deliver real change, which will improve both the facilities, but also the social life in our community.
Lewis Walmsley
Hi I'm Lewis, I'm 19 and a first year geology student. I live in Frances Gardner House and like many of you it’s my first time living away from home. If you elect me as your hall representative I would organise hall socials and parties to make our halls a more sociable place. I would also organise a Christmas Halls social with a pub crawl and Christmas meal and similar events throughout the year. As you all know our halls are kind of bad and it takes ages to get anything fixed or sorted, I would aim to improve the communication between the management and the students so we aren’t left in the dark over issues such as the hot water!!!

In summary, I aim to organise hall socials, a Christmas pub crawl and meal and also improve the communication from the management and the students to get our issues fixed ASAP. I will also listen and try to help any issues you have and I will personally raise them with the management face to face.

Thank you and vote for me please :D
Manca Rakun
Hi guys!

Organizing best socials (with free food), getting rent reduction, ensuring functioning environment (hot water finally!) and creating a really cool community in our Halls, are my main goals I want to achieve as a Hall representative.

Since I have many experiences with organizing social events from my High school, organizing them in the Halls would be my pleasure - pizza movie nights, theme parties, scavenger hunts or just cosy tea afternoons - you name it. I believe this is a great way to meet your fellow hall mates, have fun, chat and relax after busy week (and essentially get some free food).

Moreover, I will advocate for rent cuts and cheaper usage of washing machines as well as I will make sure your complaints and suggestions to improve our stay are immediately heard by UCL. If you have any problems - from plumbing and heating to just not feeling well - you can always come to me and I'll make sure we find a solution.

My goal is to make our halls comfortable, clean, safe and fun - our home (gotta love the cliché).

Thank you for your support and I wish you an amazing year!
Jevan Cousins
Hi, my name is Jevan and I’m running for hall rep because I want everyone to get as much value for their money and for Langton and Frances Gardner to be known as the best halls at UCL.

I have had experience with being a student/staff medium before as head boy of my secondary school so I know how to communicate ideas and concerns to bring about change.

If elected I would:

* Hold frequent social events in halls
* Ensure hot water is always available
* Campaign to end these seven hour fire alarm tests

I will make sure that there are events suitable for everyone so if you don’t drink or are bored of the typical pizza nights, there will be an event for you.

So, if you don’t want to have to bathe in freezing water or have a banging headache from the constant fire alarms, vote for me.

Also, I hope you like 11 year old Jevan’s first selfie.
Saga Anderholm Hansson
Hello! First let me clear up some confusion: Saga is my legal name, but those I’ve met already know me by my taken name Adam!

The reason I want to be a hall rep is because as an international student, who has travelled to many different places, I understand that it’s crucial that despite any cultural and academic differences you encounter at UCL in general, these halls are your home for the coming year. They need to feel like home, too.

I want to contribute to that by, of course, acting as a gateway to getting any suggestions or complaints heard, but also by doing the smaller things, like decorate the common areas and organise get-togethers and activities. Another change I really would love to see would be a compost bin. Did you know that paper towels can be composted?

You should vote for me because a home should be a well-functioning, comfortable place to both relax and have fun in, make you feel at home, and I believe that I am the right person to make that happen.
Alex Willis
A vote for me is a vote for:

1. FREE laundry washing

2. Urging the Accommodation Team to fix problems (e.g. no hot water) IMMEDIATELY

3. REGULAR social events (inc. pub crawls)

4. Radiators that work ALL YEAR round

5. TV remote & UPDATED games consoles in the Common Room

Hi! I’m Alex. Over the past few weeks many of us have been annoyed with the ongoing various problems in Langton Close & Frances Gardner House. No hot water for a full week, unreliable radiators, no TV remote in the common room – I pledge to change that and get us all better value for money.

Recently, Leeds Uni allowed students to have FREE laundry washing.
Why can’t we have that here?

Our rent fees make up hundreds of pounds every day, thousands of pounds every week, and MILLIONS of pounds every year. I will use past campaigning experience to meet with those in charge in order to secure funding for the initiatives in my manifesto, with an emphasis on FREE washing.

As your Rep I will constantly fight your corner to get the job done quickly and effectively – I’d be really grateful if I could count on your support.

Andrei De Leon
Hi guys! I’m Andrei and I want to put myself forward to become our Hall Representative...

As the Hall Representative for Langton Close/Frances Gardener, I would strive to make our thoughts and opinions heard and acted upon. I want to be in a role where people feel like they can approach me with helpful suggestions, important information as well as fun ideas- to help bring the residents together and have the best accommodation experience, as a family!

I feel like I would be great for this role as I am approachable, open minded and keen to put in the effort to make the most out of our time here.

In short, VOTE FOR ANDREI
Soroush Heydari
Instead of telling you what I think the biggest problems with this place are, I want to find out what you think - to truly be a ‘voice’ for all, I will circulate a (optional) survey to clarify our biggest complaints... and then place them straight at the top of my list. I have good experience in representation and hope this will come in handy when arranging solutions for these problems: from age 12 to now, I’ve been part of School Council, Senate, Student Union, and even served as Deputy Head Boy. In sixth-form, I was selected to interview the top three candidates for new Headmaster. Furthermore, I’m already academic rep for medicine!

A recurring problem is the washing machines not working when they should. When I encountered this I called their company, and now an engineer will be visiting to do a service-check on all our washing machines - practicality and pro-activity are key to my methodology! Two other common issues are our freezing showers and over-priced rent – let’s get an engineer for the showers too, and even if rent subsidy is an impossibility, at the very least, we deserve to know why.

Aside from fixing problems, I want to enhance our experience. This summer I received the Diana Award for founding and leading my school’s charity committee. We organised countless events - everything from Staff vs Students Football to Teachers’ Sumo Wrestling. This place is filled with cool and wonderful people, and events are the best way for them all to interact - we can do A LOT better than quiz nights! The committee also taught me the importance of team. The other candidates are all amazing, and their exclusion would be a waste of quality contribution. A TEAM of reps would ensure that our goals are achieved faster and more effectively, and I will organise weekly meetings so our responsibilities as reps are not forgotten.

I am dedicated to improving our experience here and will feel uneasy until I act on this promise. I hope that you take my word for it!
Adorjan Barany
I don't want to use big words or make great promises to you about how I'm going to revolutionise the life in Langton Close and Frances Gardner House. All I can promise you, is that I will try my best to represent you, to fight for your goals and to fix all the problems and take care of all the issues you might have in the coming year. I can't build a cinema room in the Frances Gardner House or a gym inside Langton Close, but there are some things that I can and will stand up for.
It is unacceptable, that (except for a couple of days in the first week) there is no hot water in Langton Close. In Frances Gardner House, the broken-down microwaves and the missing toasters make the life of the student even more stressful. The automated doors aren’t working properly, the TV in the common room isn't working, and so on and so on. Only a strong representative can solve these problems.
As I said, I’m not here to make great promises. I’m here to make Langton Close and Frances Gardner House a more social, more fun, but most importantly a more liveable place.
Barnabás Kádár
I would be happy to make both Langton Close and the Frances Gardner House a cosy “home far away from home”.

My mottos as a Hall Rep would be:
“More than just a ’Hi’ in the corridors”
It would be nice to get to know each other beyond the daily routines and to have more interaction between the two halls, too. Each year the international student mix here is unique and we should benefit from this variety. I recommend social activities, like International Food Evening, World Literature or Music Night, Movie Night (with some snacks, of course!), Relax Evening, Board Games until Dawn, Year End Party, etc., everything based on your real interests.
Apart from social events at LC&FG, my job would be to help you solve housing-related problems. Please remember:
“You want something done, Barnabás is the one!”
You could visit me during „office hours” or drop a line about your problem. I would respond and try to fix it ASAP.

About myself:
I am Hungarian from Budapest, at UCL I attend the Natural Sciences Course. I enjoy relating to people from different countries and like solving problems, as well. My hobbies are amongst others playing music, reading, hiking.
Chenchen Zhao
Hey! I’m Chenchen from China. Ever since the first hall party have I deeply fallen in love with our accommodation. I love how diverse and international we are, speaking different language, dressing different style, sharing different experience, but with same passion towards university. Though our room may not be the best, the fact that sharing kitchen and bathroom brings me can’t be even closer to my amazing flat-mates. And I really enjoyed how we gathered in the small common room to get ourselves a bit drunk before the party. I love this place so much that I want to contribute to make everyone enjoy their stay as much as I do.

As I am a new comer yo London, I am not that familiar with the culture, festival or social media, but I am willing to learn and embrace. With your help, I hope we can build the most supportive community and best parties. Also, as a Chinese, I want to invite you all to join and celebrate spring festival with me. I am sure we will have so much fun.

Hall representative is not just about fun but also responsibility. Candidates last year brought up issue such as gym and recycle and now we are facing a burning issue with hot water. Please let me know your opinion, I will look into them and take them seriously. Together, let’s make LC& FG the place we want to live in ;)
Sakina Ganiwalla
Hiya! So let's get straight into the core of it - we all know that the rent is quite high at Langton Close/Frances Gardner, but it also happens to be a bit of an old and temperamental building. I hope to achieve the introduction of newer facilities and work on the issues that arise in day-to-day living, which is where you all get to use your voices!

Whether it's updating the iron/iron board situation, getting cooler stuff for the common room, or redesigning the study spaces - you say and I'll do (don't worry, I'm very approachable)! It's very important that we get the most out of what we're paying, and I can make that happen! Being a part of numerous committees in the past (the list of which is too tedious to type out) means that I know exactly how to maximise cooperation and the most efficient ways to allocate resources. I would love to be able to represent Langton Close/Frances Gardner in getting the most out of our accommodation. Vote Sakina!
Mai Pedersen
Hi there! My name is Mai and I’m studying a BSc in Anthropology, which basically means I’m really interested in humans – you as well! I’m running as Hall Rep for Langton Close and Frances Gardner because of you; I want to make sure that you get the best hall experience possible while you’re here. That involves a lot of things, but here are some of them:

• FG and Langton shouldn’t just be a place we live, but our home! That includes looooads of fun, chill, casual, wild and you-name-it other activities. Movie nights, fun quizzes, cultural dinners; everything that will make us get to know our housemates just a little bit better.
• It’s important to me that you have a say in your stay. If you ever want to complain or just have a chat about what's going on around here, know that you can come to me!
• If the earth is not here, neither can we be! During my time as hall rep I want to work towards a more sustainable accommodation – as a minimum we need food waste bins in every flat.

… and much, much more! Happy voting!
