Why are you standing?:

As a second year postgraduate research student, I understand the issues which may arise in your time at UCL, including:

• Having appropriate study environments;

• Finding contacts to help with work and mental health struggles;

• Feeling included in the UCL student body.

As UCL is a majority postgraduate institution, it is important the needs of postgraduate students is not only met, but exceeded. As the FoBS Student representative, I will be your point of contact to convey feedback to the union, so your voices can be heard and to implement the changes you want. The 2017 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey found that only 65% of FoBS students agreed that “my institution values and responds to feedback from research degree students”. I believe our opinion should be heard, and student representatives are key to improving communication.

Only 69% of FoBS students agreed “I have frequent opportunities to discuss my research with other research students”. Community between students is vital to improving research quality, and the experience of students. As student representative, I aim to improve opportunities to meet and discuss research with other postgraduate students within UCL, by promoting the current events better, and asking you what events UCL should run.
