Hi! I’m Alex, second year biochemistry, and I’m very excited to be running for the position of Societies Rep for Performance Art for the Activities Zone. Being a part of the committee of Drama Society, one of the biggest performance art societies within the union, and having worked on a number of productions within UCL, gives me an understanding of the demands and struggles that arise during these times.

With the government regulations, performance art has really suffered at UCL, and I will make sure to work out more possibilities for societies to stay active and more opportunities for performance art to take place both in person and online. I really want to urge all arts societies not to be halted by the pandemic, but look on the bright side and continue to keep a high spirit. With my close contacts to other performance art societies such as musical theatre, stage crew, and dance society, I can effectively communicate and hear the voices of the whole scene at UCL.

I really hope that despite the current situation we do not lose our hopes, but that we can come together and celebrate the amazing talents at UCL Students’ Union.
Catherine Williams
I have been an exceptionally active member of various performance societies throughout my time here at UCL and my passion for the Arts has led me to become president of UCL’s Musical Theatre society.

I want to further collaboration amongst the societies, increasing networking and performance opportunities for students, opening the chance for them to develop new skills. This is something I have continued to develop within musical theatre society, and fostering excellent relationships amongst the societies and with the Union will ensure this.

The current global climate means that many in the performance sector have suffered heavily and opportunities feel diminished. If elected, I would ensure that communication with the union remains constant and effective; pushing for more options for our performance societies and creating new ideas that allow societies to engage in more of their activities.

Additionally, I want to promote inclusivity across the board, pushing for member welfare to continually be at the forefront of our societies. If elected, I plan on having regular meetings with the societies, to allow them to propose any new changes/ideas they would want discussed at the activities zone. My previous work with the societies means I already have an excellent network amongst them, making discussions more feasible and effective.
I am incredibly approachable and diligent in my work, and will ensure that all societies feel represented and heard.
