The Leadership Race is where all students at UCL decide who leads their club, society and students’ union for the next academic year.

There are many different types of leadership roles available, including club and society Committee members, Part-time Officers and full-time paid Sabbatical Officers.

  • Club and Society Committee members: Including President, Treasurer and Welfare Officer, these students volunteer their time to lead and manage their club or society for the 2020-21 academic year.
  • Part-time Officers, including the Disabled Students’ Officer, volunteer their time during their studies to work on projects and campaigns to improve the lives and experience of those they’re elected to represent for the 2020-21 academic year.
  • Sabbatical Officers, including the Activities Officer, take a year out of their studies to work full-time representing students at UCL and delivering their manifesto pledges for the 2020-21 academic year. They’re paid around £25k per year and form the Union’s Leadership Team - guiding the strategic direction of the Union. Sabbatical Officers sit on the Union’s Trustee Board ensuring the charity is run effectively.

There are nearly 800 students who’ve put themselves forward to be Committee members of their society, Part-time Officers or Sabbatical Officers. This is the biggest election we’ve ever had.
