Like lots of Students’ Unions, we’re a member of the National Union of Students (NUS). But should we remain a member? It’s a big decision, and we want all students at UCL to make it.

Last academic year a proposal was agreed at Union Council to put the question of our NUS membership out to an all student vote. So, this October we’ll be asking all students to decide whether we should remain a member of NUS, or leave.

We’re looking for students to run the Leave and Remain campaigns. Perhaps you think the benefits of being part of the NUS’s buying group makes it worth it, or maybe you don’t agree with the NUS’ position on issues you care about. Either way, we need to get the word out to students so they can make in informed decision when they come to vote. You will be given a budget to develop and run a campaign that will help inform students on what NUS membership means for them.

Think you could run an informative and fair campaign on NUS membership?

If you’ve got a strong opinion on what the outcome of this vote should be, consider joining the Leave or Remain campaigns. Come along to the Campaign Meeting on Monday 9 October, 18.00-19.00 in Chadwick G07 to find out more and decide whether or not to get involved.  If you’ve got any questions, get in touch with Simon To on simon.to@ucl.ac.uk.

Not sure yet?

There’s more information about the issue and how the process will work, here.
