Friday 13 July 2018 (All day) to Saturday 4 August 2018 (All day)

Name of Event: Oxford & District Mencap Summer Holidays

Volunteer Roles: Each year in a lovely countryside setting, Oxford Mencap organises 3 weeks of residential summer holidays for people with learning disabilities. The aim of the holidays is to create great memories, provide fun, friendship and new experiences for campers and volunteers alike. Activities and outings for the week can include: Sports, swimming, bowling, theatre trips, music, drama, BBQs, discos and indoor recreational activities. All volunteers are an invaluable part of the holiday, it’s a brilliant way to gain experience and skills to put on your CV.  Volunteers are given a chance to show responsibility, develop their leadership skills and work within a team. If you are looking for a challenge this is a rewarding role

The role of a volunteer involves acting as a friend and carer to an allocated camper providing 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 support and engaging them in activities. Volunteers have the opportunity to come along to an orientation day as well as receiving ongoing training and support from the camp leaders, you will not be asked to do anything you are uncomfortable with. Previous experience is not necessary, an ability to understand someone’s needs and create a truly special week for them is.
