UCL is holding an Inquiry into the past and present of teaching and research into eugenics at UCL. The Inquiry is led by an independent Chair, Professor Iyiola Solanke of the University of Leeds. Members of the Inquiry include prominent UCL academics as well as professional services and equality representatives from UCL and the Students’  Union. Full conclusions and recommendations will be delivered to the Provost by the end of 2019.

The Inquiry is currently conducting archival and empirical research. At this Town Hall meeting for UCL staff and students, members of the Inquiry will present an interim summary of the findings so far and discuss some of the trends, patterns and questions thrown up by the research. Please note that they will not be presenting final conclusions or recommendations, as the Inquiry is still ongoing.

We anticipate spaces for this event may be in high demand and would recommend booking now. Please bring your UCL staff or student ID with you in order to gain access to the event.

Please note that this event will be filmed.

UCL staff and students who would like to participate in the Inquiry can do so by completing the survey here.

Black Futures

We must act in the present to make our future what we want it to be. ‘Black Futures’ asks us how we want to move from surviving to thriving. ‘Black Futures’ asks us to reclaim history for ourselves… because history is political and so is our future.

What is the BME Network

The Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Students’ Network is a place of support, acceptance and activism. This year we’ll be running the Decolonising UCL campaign, working to close the BME attainment gap, supporting the fight for free education by resisting changes to higher education that hit BME students the hardest and fighting for free crisis accommodation for students in need.
