Thursday 28 May 202015.00 to 16.30

Continuing studies and research at home has been the norm for over two months, since we moved into lockdown. This webinar tries to address the challenges faced by student parents and carers at UCL, for working and studying at home, while also managing full-time caring responsibility. This event is organised with the support of Students’ Union UCL, and is funded by Researcher-Led Initiatives Award-2020, obtained for the project: Research-Life balance for postgraduate student parents and carers.

The webinar comprises of two parts

Part 1: 15:00-16:00
Session by Ms. Jessica Chivers, an external specialist

Part 2: 16:00-16:30
An interactive session with a UCL member of staff to discuss specific issues from a UCL perspective, on recent changes in course set-up, advice to student parents and carers etc. The event is open to all students at UCL, especially PGT and PGR students and postdoctoral researchers with caring responsibilities.

About our external speaker: Jessica Chivers

Our external speaker, Ms. Jessica Chivers is an experienced coaching psychologist, author of ‘Mothers Work’, a runner and much more. She founded the Talent Keeper Specialists organization, specializing in bringing employees back to work after a break. Her experience would resonate with many UCL student parents who have returned to studies after a break. Through the webinar, Jessica would share her tips and strategies for efficient working and studying from home with children, touching upon three important aspects: focus management, energy management and relationship management. The speaker encourages interaction and Q&A for more detailed discussions.

The last half an hour will be used to discuss recent changes in arrangements for remote working and studying for UCL students, and options available to students with caring responsibilities. This session would help clarify any specific queries the students may have regarding their programmes.
