Out of the huts of history’s shame

I rise

Up from a past, that’s rooted in pain

I rise

I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,

Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Maya Angelou- “Still I rise”

A screening of the Women’s Network Black History Month Project where we explore how black women perceive womanhood. We place a spotlight on the different experiences of several black female students, to challenge the notion that ‘gender’ is the primary factor determining a woman’s fate and how different intersectional identities, specifically race, shapes our experiences of the world. It’s an event where through listening and conversations, we take steps towards dismantling the tools of the oppressors toward black women & any internalized misogynoir.

There will also be an open mic for spoken words, storytelling and so much more!

Food & Snacks including Vegan, vegetarian, glutenfree & halal options!

This event is open to all Women Of Colour
