The UCL Art Business Society is excited to welcome Vishal Kumar to come and talk about his work as a cultural data scientist. He is currently researching the economic and social impact of arts and culture in cities at The Bartlett’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett…) at UCL

Vishal is interested in championing arts and culture through entrepreneurship. He is the CEO and co-founder of Photogram.ai (INSERT LINK https://photogram.ai), a computational photography startup founded on Entrepreneur First LD12 cohort but now at UCL Innovation & Enterprise and part of the NVIDIA AI Inception Program, and was a semi-finalist in the Creative Industries Award for the Mayor of London’s Entrepreneur Competition 2019.

He is also a visiting lecturer at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art and Christie’s Education, and is a member of the Museums AI Network and Cities of Culture Postgraduate Research Network. He uses a combination of data science and visualization, machine learning and computer vision, urban economics and social media analytics having written several blog posts and co-authored an academic paper. He works as a data science consultant for a range of public and private cultural institutions including Futurecity, BOP Consulting, Vastari Group, the UK City of Culture Coventry 2021, and is the lead data scientist for London Borough of Culture Programme 2019 – Waltham Forest Council.

Vishal previously worked at Sotheby’s auction house as the company’s first-ever Data Scientist and studied a BSc in Economics (Applied) at the London School of Economics, an MA in Art Business at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and is a part-time MRes in Spatial Data Science and Visualization at CASA.
