UCL Anatomy Society are very lucky to host Professor Iain Hutchison, a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, who is going to give a talk about his most interesting cases.

In 2000, Professor Hutchison launched the charity, Saving Faces, which is dedicated to funding research into this rather overlooked field of medicine.

The talk will include paintings by Mark Gilbert of patients before, after, and even during their surgery, which is part of an art project by the charity. We will hear about how facial reconstruction is conducted: how 3D templates of the bones are crafted and incorporated into the operation, and where the future of facial reconstruction lies. He will also touch upon the psychological impact of facial reconstruction, and the influence of the social environment of patients on their perceptions of their faces.

***Ideal for surgery-enthusiasts, psychology-lovers and anyone interested in Med-Tech***
