The aim of the Keep Active Volunteer Scheme is to provide support to older people with outdoor mobility and exercises after they've had a fall, stroke or other illness to enable them to be physically active and independent again. By helping them achieve their mobility goals, they can then access their community again to prevent loneliness and isolation. Volunteers will develop an understanding of the difficulties older people face with rehabilitation after they have been discharged from clinical services. They will develop a range of motivational skills and get a good understanding of the benefits of exercise and mobility, and the positive impact it can have on older people.
A walk in their local community - going to the park, visiting a local shop. Visiting someone in their homes to help and encouraging them to complete a prescribed exercise program. Keeping an older isolated person company.
