Heath Hands

Heath Hands helps preserve the special character of Hampstead Heath through practical conservation work, ecological monitoring, wildlife interpretation and event support.

We are volunteer led and give everyone who enjoys the Heath an opportunity to make a difference.

Application deadline: 

Discover Hampstead Heath and learn about nature and conservation. As a Wildlife Interpreter you’ll deliver lots of fun activities outdoors with visitors from our interpretation bikes. Take part in bird watching, pond-dipping, lead guided walks and much more.

Role Aim: 

To deliver fun nature activities with visitors to Hampstead Heath, making connections to nature and wildlife.

Duties: 

Work as part of a small team delivering fun and engaging interpretation activities outdoors on Hampstead Heath. You’ll engage visitors and learn about nature and conservation.

Skills needed: 

Teamwork and good verbal communication skills, interest in nature. No essential pre-requisites. However experience of being outdoors and a passion for nature helps.

Training: 

We provide health and safety and background training prior to starting; training is provided at the beginning of each session, and ongoing support given by supervisors.We run a monthly training session on a range of topics e.g. species identification or monitoring techniques.

Location: 
Outdoors on Hampstead Heath or at Kenwood Estate/The Hive.
Time commitment: 
3-5 hours per week
Opening times: 
The majority of sessions occur on weekends between 11am and 5pm.
Once you’ve registered interest in this volunteering role, we’ll send your name and UCL email address to the organisation for their records. You’ll also receive information about the next steps to take if you do wish to take things forward.
