Are you looking for an opportunity to gain valuable experience in supporting people with disabilities’ Would you like to help our students increase their confidence to live independently? Independent Living is one of most popular classes. We cover topics such as learning about the local area, how to travel safely around London, health, money, and managing personal relationships. Our students in life skills welcome volunteers into their lessons with open arms, and we can guarantee you’ll get a real buzz from doing such a rewarding role.

Horticulture Volunteer

Are you an avid gardener, or do you want the opportunity to contribute your gardening skills to the maintenance of our beautiful gardens’ We have a site based at Springfield Hospital in Tooting which our students, along with our Horticulture Trainers, have developed and are continuing to maintain. You don’t need to have advanced gardening skills, we’d just like someone who is passionate about greenery and would like to volunteer to support our students with their development in the garden.

Digital Skills Volunteer

Are you confident with using the latest mobile, PC and tablet technology? Would you like to gain some experience of teaching adults with disabilities’ Some of our students have a learning disability; some may have physical disabilities, ill mental health or autism. We focus on what people can do, rather than what they cannot. You’ll be working in a friendly and relaxed environment with the support from the Digital Skills trainer and other volunteers. Our ICT suite has 12 PC’s, and 5 iPads. We are equipped with Office and Adobe CS4 packages.

Arts and Crafts Volunteer

Every Monday we run an Arts and Crafts session for adults with disabilities. Within this role you will be working closely with our students on a range of different activities such as sewing, painting, designing t-shirts, making greeting cards, jewellery and much much more. The work focuses on developing student’s skills and attention to detail, as well as acting a therapeutic space. This session is run by our Arts and Crafts tutor, Diana. Your main responsibilities as a volunteer will be to develop relationships with students to support and tap in to their artistic abilities.

This opportunity would be perfect for those studying Psychology or Applied Behaviour Analysis, and will allow you to refine your data analysis and research skills.

Community Volunteer – Energy & Water Specialist

CREW is a community energy group working with local people to reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions. Mainly based in SW London (a few minutes on the train from Waterloo), CREW holds Energy Cafés in public buildings and community venues where volunteers advise people on how to reduce their bills, improve their energy efficiency and reduce their water usage at home.

Our network of 200 trained LGBT+ ambassadors work to change that, by championing LGBT+ equality and allyship in schools and colleges as relatable LGBT+ role models.

As a Community Connector, you will work with older people to find new activities that they would like to take part in. By doing so, you will help combat isolation and loneliness and bring stimulation, enjoyment and company back into older people’s lives.

This role is key to Age UK Camden’s aim to bring community, empowerment and friendship to older people in Camden.

Older People’s Creative Writing and Pottery volunteer

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our weekly pottery and creative writing sessions for over 60s. Volunteers will take part in activities, helping to encourage participants to join in, or being an extra pair of hands for tutors within the sessions. Our studios are in the heart of Holborn, volunteering is a great way to get to know older people in your local community whilst having fun!

The potential Intern would focus on researching how other organisations communicate with their volunteers, reviewing our current communication with volunteers, consulting with volunteers and staff on what communication they would like to see and designing a new communication pathway for us.

Our Volunteer Research Assistant will help us map the commissioning landscape across the UK and create an interactive map of their research. Volunteers will be conducting desk-based research as well as supporting the Employment Team to develop an interactive map and add your research to it.

This November we are holding our 17th Gala Ball. The event has grown considerably and we now welcome 600 guests to Old Billingsgate in the City of London.
