Centra Care and Support (Clarion)

Centra Care & Support is a registered charity, part of Clarion Housing Group, a social landlord providing affordable homes and delivering one of the country’s largest social investment programmes.

Activities include residential care homes, sheltered housing projects, shared accommodation and also floating support provided to people in their homes.

We provide support services to vulnerable groups in society including young people with complex needs, people with mental health difficulties, people with learning disabilities, older people, vulnerable families in the community and ex-offenders who also have mental health needs.

Perhaps you’re looking for a placement as part of your course? Centra is a non-profit charity, supporting the needs of vulnerable adults in our community, to provide them with life and skills enhancing support. Our service users live independently in purpose built blocks of flats.

Centra has a partnership with the Amy Winehouse Foundation called Amy’s Place, which provides supported living accommodation for young women in recovery and receiving support with drug and alcohol issues.

We would like to recruit a Personal Fitness Volunteer support our Young Women, 1-4 hours per week. Due to the nature of our client group, we can only accept female applicants.

Role Aim: 

The Personal Fitness Volunteer will help to boost a Young Woman’s self-esteem. You will be supporting a service user who is in recovery from either a drug or alcohol issue, or eating disorder.


Volunteers can do any of the following:

- Set short and long term goals with the service users

- Encourage the women to follow their programmes productively in a safe environment.

- Provide a holistic approach to guiding fitness and exercise.

Skills needed: 

For female applicants only, studying a sports related degree.


- Volunteers receive a thorough induction and have access to any relevant in-house and external training, in safeguarding vulnerable adults for e.g.

- Volunteers have a supervisor providing day-to-day support and encouragement.

- Reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed.

Time commitment: 
1-3 hours per week
Opening times: 
From as little as 1-4 hours per session, between Monday – Fridays, 9am- 5pm. Ideally the volunteer can stay for a minimum of 4 months.
Once you’ve registered interest in this volunteering role, we’ll send your name and UCL email address to the organisation for their records. You’ll also receive information about the next steps to take if you do wish to take things forward. The organisation has signed up to our code of standards, which includes a commitment to protecting your data. We won’t share your information with anyone unless you’ve given explicit consent to.
