CLIC Sargent volunteers are vital in the fight for young lives against cancer. They are a big part of the reason why we are able to do so much to support children and young people with cancer. From bucket collectors, event volunteers, to housekeepers in our Home from Homes and CLIC Sargent Speakers in the community.

This exhibition, War & Trade, portrays the different merchant ship types and the experiences of their merchant seaman crews.

The project is being supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and offers lots of ways for volunteers to get involved. There are opportunities to:

Volunteer Fundraising Assistant

ACTSA is the successor organisation to the anti-apartheid movement, we work campaigning for rights, equality and development across southern Africa. We also work to educate and inform on Southern Africa , providing information and analysis on the region.

ACTSA will shortly be re-launching its website and we have a research based volunteer opportunity to work with the ACTSA team to update the ‘Country Information’ section of our website on countries in Southern Africa (15 in total).

Volunteer befriender

Santé supports refugees and asylum seekers who have social care/ health issues. Befrienders will help people to link to services, rebuild confidence, overcome practical problems such as language barriers, and better understand UK culture.

No qualifications are needed although we require a DBS check to ensure you are eligible to work with vulnerable adults. Befrienders need to be accepting, caring, good listeners and assertive.

Ability to speak a refugee language is useful but not essential. Training and support will be provided.

Personal Fitness Volunteer

Perhaps you’re looking for a placement as part of your course? Centra is a non-profit charity, supporting the needs of vulnerable adults in our community, to provide them with life and skills enhancing support. Our service users live independently in purpose built blocks of flats.

Centra has a partnership with the Amy Winehouse Foundation called Amy’s Place, which provides supported living accommodation for young women in recovery and receiving support with drug and alcohol issues.

Massage Therapy Volunteer

The Afghanistan & Central Asian Association (ACAA) is a successful frontline Afghan charity set up in 2001 and is now providing an opportunity for a law student or graduate to take up a place in the charity working with refugees and migrants in the UK. The successful applicant will become the Legal Team Leader and be responsible for the running of the ACAA’s free bi-monthly legal clinic, alongside other volunteer tasks. This role would particularly suit a law graduate with an interest in family and immigration law.

Come and play!

Every Saturday the adventure playground at our community centre for disabled people hosts children and young people and their families to in a range of inclusive play opportunities, from zipping down the zip wire, making dens, trying out our cycle rickshaw (hard work) or toasting marshmallows on the bonfire. We need volunteers to help make sessions friendly, fun safe (eg we can only build a bonfire when we have enough adults to ensure its safety).
