Children's Literacy Teacher


Volunteers needed to teach disadvantaged children how to read. Real Action is the literacy charity that has taught over two thousand children from London’s most deprived communities to read. At our model Butterfly Saturday Reading School we help children, aged five to twelve, to learn to read by the systematic Butterfly reading programme.

IT Tutor to Elderly People


This volunteering opportunity will enable elderly people to gain confidence,obtain enjoyment, and acquire new skills in using computers. We are also looking for somebody to perhaps be involved projects in digital video and photography. There is a very friendly and informal atmosphere and very energetic third agers although the average age is 76 years!

A couple of hours one afternoon a week will make all the difference. The Centre is very near the university.

Summer Holidays Volunteer Helper

Help with our residental holidays for people with learning disabilities run entirely by volunteers! Have the oppportunity to act as a carer to an allocated guest providing them with 1 to 1 support and engage them in activities. Our guest have varying levels of needs, but one thing in common, your commitment to their holiday– it is a very special thing. They look forward to the holidays all year and often volunteers have as good a time as they do!

IT Support for the Elderly

We would like to start a a computer drop-in session for local elderly residents on Friday mornings (or other times possible - open to discussion). Provisionally, it would be from 10-12 am and we are likely to have a regular attendance of 4 to 7 very friendly, interesting and active elderly people from 60 to 80+.

Activites Leader


Marchmont Community Centre needs volunteers to work with older people mainly in our centre.

As an Activities Leader you will set up arts and crafts, IT skills or other activities and facilitate involvement of elderly people in these activities on Monday afternoons, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday mornings. It is a perfect opportunity for volunteers to organize, manage and deliver their projects about arts and crafts, IT skills and other activities, help them to gain communication, teamwork, leadership and project management skills.

Lunch Club Socialising Assistant


Marchmont Community Centre needs volunteers to work with older people mainly in our centre. You will socialise with clients attending lunch club, encourage the formation of friendship networks and assist in lunchtime duties such as setting up, serving and clearing up. Occasional supervision and socialising on outings will also be required.

Science Explainer Volunteer


Are you a science student or enthusiast? Do you want to share a love of science? Volunteer at the Royal Institution’s Family Fun Days and Lates running activities and demonstrating experiments to young people and adults. This could be anything from demonstrating blood circulation to making indoor rockets! The ELSEP scheme (Employment and Life Skills Programme) supports young adults with autism and/or learning disabilities to develop skills for work and independent living.

The project runs every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am-3pm at our headquarters in Tottenham.

Regional Outreach Group Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to help organising our monthly AJR Regional Group Meetings all around London.

Individual Befriending

We are looking for volunteers to visit elderly AJR members who are refugees and survivors of the Holocaust in their own homes. Many members are frail and often isolated; some have few or no surviving family and are very lonely, so they would be grateful to have your companionship and much-needed assistance. You as a volunteer would make regular visits, be someone to talk to and - depending on the members’ physical state - possibly go on walks or shopping.

St John Ambulance Volunteer


St John Ambulance is the UKs leading First Aid and ambulance charity. We are the student wing of St John Ambulance. We aim to provide students in Higher and Further Education with the chance to become or remain involved in St John Ambulance. Once qualified, you will provide first aid to members of the public at events such as marathons, tennis, theatres, football matches, royal events and many more.

Advice Support Worker

Camden Citizens Advice Bureaux Service (Camden CAB) is a charity that provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to people on their rights and responsibilities. We also collect evidence, and lobby to improve, the policies and practices that adversely affect people’s lives. Camden Citizens Advice is looking for student volunteers to support advisers in the day to day running of the bureau!

ASWs support advisers in the day to day running of the bureau. For example, they:

Community Gardener


We are a 1.2 acre community garden and building in Kings cross. Our main aim is to improve the quality of life of the people of our area.

As a volunteer as a Community Gardener you will assist the Garden Ranger with garden maintenance including composting, weeding, painting and pruning.

New Horizon Volunteer

New Horizon Youth Centre provides a range of services to young homeless people between the ages of 16 to 21. The drop-in provides a safe environment including various facilities and activities such as a surgery, classes, life skills, sport, free meals, showers and laundry. Various satellite services on employment, education, drugs and family mediation are also available at the centre.



Our volunteer Befrienders play an incredibly important role, offering those in need the opportunity to talk and be ‘befriended’ without pressure or judgement. They enable the guests to feel understood and valued. Besides befriending guests, we ask our volunteers to help with admin and some light cooking and food preparation. You also have the opportunity to help out with publicity, although this is optional.
