Engaging with children from local school groups by helping us to deliver our award winning educational workshops at KS1 & KS2 level, using multiple learning tools such as, period costumes and object handling.

IT Support for the Elderly

We would like to start a a computer drop-in session for local elderly residents on Friday mornings (or other times possible - open to discussion). Provisionally, it would be from 10-12 am and we are likely to have a regular attendance of 4 to 7 very friendly, interesting and active elderly people from 60 to 80+.

As an Activities Leader you will set up arts and crafts, IT skills or other activities and facilitate involvement of elderly people in these activities on Monday afternoons, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday mornings. Lunch Club Socialising Assistant

You will socialise with clients attending lunch club, encourage the formation of friendship networks and assist in lunchtime duties such as setting up, serving and clearing up. Occasional supervision and socialising on outings will also be required.

Individual Befriending

We are looking for volunteers to visit elderly AJR members who are refugees and survivors of the Holocaust in their own homes. Many members are frail and often isolated; some have few or no surviving family and are very lonely, so they would be grateful to have your companionship and much-needed assistance. You as a volunteer would make regular visits, be someone to talk to and - depending on the members’ physical state - possibly go on walks or shopping.

St John Ambulance Volunteer

Academic Support Tutor

Organisation: 

Volunteer tutors provide after-school academic support to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. As a volunteer you will join a friendly, welcoming team at one of our 12 London learning centres, delivering classroom-based support to young people.

Volunteers at primary school sessions (ages 7 - 11) work with small groups of children, providing homework support or leading an interactive learning activity.

Our team of hotline volunteers is made up from students from a range of London universities, including UCL. They are trained in active listening, empathy and questioning skills, as well as all the policies and procedures that come with running a helpline. Over the past few years, we have expanded our phone service to instant messaging, meaning that we can now talk to over 3500 students every academic year! Joining our team is a great way to help support your fellow students, make new friends studying all around London and help propel our charity into the future.

Befriender

Our volunteer Befrienders play an incredibly important role, offering those in need the opportunity to talk and be ‘befriended’ without pressure or judgement. They enable the guests to feel understood and valued. Besides befriending guests, we ask our volunteers to help with admin and some light cooking and food preparation. You also have the opportunity to help out with publicity, although this is optional.
